Trust works!

Trust works!.

I recently read the book "Trust Works! Four Keys to Building Lasting Relationships" and would like to share my key take aways.

Trust Works! Four Keys to Building Lasting Relationships is a book written by Ken Blanchard, Cynthia Olmstead, and Martha Lawrence which focuses on the importance of trust in building and maintaining personal and professional relationships. Building trust takes a long time but it can be broken in a blink of an eye if the 4 concepts stated in the book are not applied.

The book hinges on the ABCD trust model which plays a huge role in cultivating trust. The model states that one should imbibe these behaviours written below inorder to build trust or clear misconceptions.

Able

Demonstrating competence in one's area of responsibility is crucial for building trust. When individuals are confident in your abilities, they are more likely to trust your judgment and decisions.

To Demonstrate competence, you have to:

  • Get quality results
  • Resolve problems
  • Develop skills
  • Be good at what you do
  • Get experience
  • Use skills to assist others
  • Be the best at what you do

Believable

Being open and transparent in communication, acting with integrity, admitting mistakes, and addressing concerns genuinely helps to establish a foundation of trust. When someone tells you something in confidence, keep it to yourself and not tell everyone that cares to listen.

To Act with integrity, you have to:

  • Keep confidences
  • Admit when you're wrong
  • Be honest
  • Don't talk behind backs
  • Be sincere
  • Be non-judgmental

Connected

Genuine concern for the well-being and success of others. Showing empathy, understanding, and support creates an environment where people feel valued and cared for, enhancing trust.

To show that you Care about others, you have to:

  • Listen well
  • Praise others
  • Show interest in others
  • Share about yourself
  • Work well with others
  • Show empathy for others
  • Ask for input

Dependable

Consistently delivering on promises and commitments. When individuals can rely on each other to follow through on their commitments, it builds a sense of dependability and reliability thereby fostering trust.

To show that you can be reliable, you have to:

  • Do what you say you'll do
  • Be timely
  • Be responsive
  • Be organized
  • Follow-up
  • Be consistent

Conclusion

By applying these behaviours that align with the 4 core elements of trust in your daily life, you would show people that you're Able through your deeds, Believable through your words and actions, Connected during conversations and Dependable when push comes to shove.
